Bubble Nebula **SOLD**
51" x 53"

The Bubble Nebula is being pushed out by the stellar wind of massive star BD+602522. It's actually the smallest of three bubbles and part of a much larger complex of shells and stars. As fast moving gas expands off BD+602522, it pushes surrounding sparse gas into a shell. The energetic starlight then ionizes the shell, causing it to glow. The Bubble Nebula is about 10 light-years across. Scientific information is taken from Astronomy Picture of the Day/NASA Bubble Nebula won a NICHE Award, was a finalist in the 22nd Artists Magazine contest and was a finalist in the American Quilter’s Society Competition.

This quilt hangs in a private residence in Raleigh, NC.
